Ravenden Summary

Ravenden is a town located in Randolph County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jonesboro, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Ravenden was founded in 1876 and named after the nearby Ravenden Springs. The town was incorporated in 1881. The first post office was established in 1877.

Geography

Ravenden is located at 36 17 25 North 90 54 45 West 36 290278 90 9125

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

Economy

Ravenden's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 590 people, 246 households, and 166 families residing in the town. The population density was 845.2 people per square mile (326.2/km2). There were 279 housing units at an average density of 400.2 per square mile (154.6/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.45% White, 0.17% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.
There were 246 households, out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 30.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.97.
