History

Mineral Springs was founded in 1873 by the Arkansas and Louisiana Railroad. The town was named for the mineral springs located nearby. The springs were believed to have medicinal properties and were a popular destination for visitors.
The town was incorporated in 1876 and a post office was established in 1877. The town grew rapidly and by 1880 had a population of over 500.

The economy of Mineral Springs is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,072 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.2 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 486 housing units at an average density of 403.2 per square mile (155.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.45% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 1.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.56% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.90.
