Keiser Summary

Keiser is a city located in Mississippi County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Blytheville, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

History

Keiser was founded in 1891 by the Keiser family, who had moved to the area from Illinois. The town was named after the family, and the post office was established in 1892.
The town was incorporated in 1901, and the first mayor was J.W. Keiser. The town grew rapidly, and by 1910, the population had reached 1,000.
In the early 20th century, Keiser was a major cotton-producing center. The town had several cotton gins, a cottonseed oil mill, and a cottonseed huller.
The town also had a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a movie theater, and a number of stores.

Economy

Keiser is a small town with a limited economy. The main industries are agriculture and manufacturing.
Agriculture is the main industry in Keiser. The town is located in an area known as the Mississippi Delta, which is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the United States. The main crops grown in the area are cotton, soybeans, corn, and rice.
Manufacturing is also an important part of the local economy. The town is home to several factories, including a furniture factory, a plastics factory, and a metal fabrication plant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,527.5 people per square mile (589.3/km2). There were 817 housing units at an average density of 676.3 per square mile (261.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 18.2% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 17.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.
