Franklin is a city located in Johnson County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County.

History

Franklin was founded in 1837 by William Franklin, a settler from Tennessee. The town was named after him. The first post office was established in 1838. The town was incorporated in 1875.

Franklin is a small rural town with a population of 1,845. The economy is largely based on agriculture, with the main crops being cotton, soybeans, and corn. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 708.3 per square mile (273.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
