Des Arc Summary

Des Arc is a city located in Prairie County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,212 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Prairie County.

History

Des Arc was founded in 1853 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of DeValls Bluff. The town was named after the Des Arc River, which flows through the area. The river was named by French explorers in the late 1700s, who named it after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
The town was incorporated in 1856 and quickly became an important trading center for the surrounding area. The town was also a major stop on the Memphis and Little Rock Railroad, which connected the two cities.
In the late 1800s, Des Arc was a major cotton-producing center. The town was also home to several sawmills and gristmills.
In the early 1900s, Des Arc was a major stop on the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway. The town was also home to several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill.

The economy of Des Arc is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, which produce cotton, soybeans, corn, and other crops. The town is also home to several businesses, including a lumber mill, a feed mill, and a grain elevator.
