Center Ridge Summary
Introduction
Center Ridge is a small unincorporated community located in Conway County, Arkansas. It is situated in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, approximately 25 miles northwest of Little Rock. The community is home to a population of approximately 500 people and is known for its rural charm and friendly atmosphere.
History
The area that is now Center Ridge was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Tennessee. The settlement was originally known as “Ridge” and was located near the center of the county. In 1836, the name was changed to “Center Ridge” to reflect its location in the center of the county.
The town was officially incorporated in 1883 and quickly became a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a grist mill, and a sawmill. The town also had a post office, a general store, and a blacksmith shop.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it and the population began to move away. By the mid-1900s, the town had become a virtual ghost town. However, in the late 1970s, the town began to experience a resurgence as people began to move back to the area.
Geography
Center Ridge is located in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in Conway County, Arkansas. The town is situated at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 9 and Arkansas Highway 10. The town is approximately 25 miles northwest of Little Rock and is surrounded by the cities of Morrilton, Conway, and Russellville.
