History

The area that is now Buckner was first settled in the early 1800s by settlers from Tennessee and Kentucky. The town was originally known as "Buckner's Station" and was named after the first postmaster, William Buckner. The town was officially incorporated in 1881.
In the early 1900s, Buckner was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.
In the 1950s, Buckner began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. The town's population dropped from 1,845 in 1950 to 1,541 in 1960.

Buckner is located at 34°51'45" North, 91°51'45" West (34.8625, -91.8625). The city is situated in the Arkansas Delta region, and is located about 25 miles east of Little Rock.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. Buckner is located in the Arkansas Delta region, and is surrounded by farmland.
