Branch is a town in Randolph County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pocahontas Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Branch was founded in 1883 by the Reverend J.W. Branch, a Methodist minister. The town was named after him. The first post office was established in 1884.

Geography

Branch is located at (36.255045, -91.144545). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7sqmi, all land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 590 people, 246 households, and 166 families residing in the town. The population density was 845.2 people per square mile (326.2/km^2). There were 279 housing units at an average density of 400.2 per square mile (154.6/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.45% White, 0.17% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 1.37% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 246 households, out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 30.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 86.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.
