Arkansas City is a small town located in Desha County, Arkansas. It is situated on the banks of the Arkansas River, about 25 miles south of Pine Bluff. The town was founded in 1872 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Arkansas City was founded in 1872 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Pine Bluff. The town was originally called "New Hope" but was later changed to Arkansas City. The town was incorporated in 1876 and was the first town in Desha County.
The town was a major trading center for the surrounding area and was known for its cotton and timber industries. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, a gristmill, and a blacksmith shop.
