Wisner Summary

Wisner is a city located in the northeastern corner of Nebraska in the United States. It is the county seat of Cuming County and is located along the Elkhorn River. The city has a population of 1,717 as of the 2010 census.

History

Wisner was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The city was named after one of the settlers, John Wisner. The city was incorporated in 1873 and was the county seat of Cuming County.
In the late 19th century, Wisner was a major railroad hub. The city was served by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway, the Chicago & North Western Railway, and the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad. The city was also home to a large stockyard and a number of grain elevators.

Geography

Wisner is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 275 and Nebraska Highway 15. The city is situated along the Elkhorn River and is located about 50 miles northwest of Omaha. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
