Washington is located at 41°14'45"N 96°41'45"W (41.245833, -96.695833). It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Omaha. The city is located in the Loess Hills region of Nebraska, which is characterized by rolling hills and bluffs. The city is situated on the banks of the Elkhorn River, which flows through the city.

History

Washington was founded in 1856 by settlers from the east coast of the United States. The city was named after George Washington, the first president of the United States. The city was incorporated in 1872 and has remained a small rural community ever since.
