Trenton Summary

Trenton is a small town located in Hitchcock County, Nebraska. It is situated in the southwest corner of the state, approximately 30 miles from the Colorado border. The town was founded in 1887 and has a population of approximately 500 people.

History

Trenton was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from Iowa. The town was named after the nearby Trenton Creek, which was named after the city of Trenton, New Jersey. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a hub for the surrounding area. The town was incorporated in 1891 and the first post office was established in 1892.
The town grew steadily throughout the early 20th century, and by the 1950s it had become a thriving agricultural center. The town was home to several businesses, including a grain elevator, a lumber yard, a feed store, and a hardware store.
In the late 1960s, the town began to decline as the agricultural industry shifted away from the area. The population began to decline and many businesses closed. In the 1980s, the town began to experience a resurgence as new businesses opened and the population began to grow again.
