Sutton Summary

Sutton is a small city located in Clay County, Nebraska, United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 40 miles northwest of Lincoln. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Sutton was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Sutton family, who were among the first settlers. The first post office was established in 1872.

In 1873 the first school was built in Sutton The town was incorporated in 1875

In the late 19th century, Sutton was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, a livery stable, and a general store.

Geography

Sutton is located at 40°45'25" North, 97°45'25" West (40.756944, -97.756944). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy
