Polk Summary

Polk, Nebraska is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state. It is situated in the Platte River Valley, and is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1871 and was named after James K. Polk, the 11th President of the United States.

Geography

Polk is located in the Platte River Valley, which is part of the Great Plains region of the United States. The town is situated on the eastern edge of the valley, and is bordered by the Platte River to the north and the Elkhorn River to the south. The town is located approximately 25 miles east of Omaha, and is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
The town has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the surrounding area. The climate is characterized by hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the population of Polk was 1,093. The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
