Oxford Summary

Oxford, Nebraska is a small city located in the southeastern corner of the state, in Furnas County. It is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is the county seat of Furnas County. The city has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Oxford was founded in 1873, when the Union Pacific Railroad was built through the area. The city was named after Oxford, England, and was incorporated in 1876. The city was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and hay.
