Murray Summary

Murray is a city located in Cass County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Murray was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally called "Ohio City" but was later renamed "Murray" after the postmaster, William Murray. The town was officially incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Murray was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, a lumberyard, and a blacksmith shop. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and a newspaper.

Murray is located at 41°14'25" North, 96°2'17" West (41.240278, -96.038194). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

The economy of Murray is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,541 people, 617 households, and 431 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,717.2 people per square mile (664.2/km2).
