Madison Summary

Madison is a city located in the state of Nebraska, in the United States of America. It is the county seat of Madison County and is located in the eastern part of the state, about 50 miles northwest of Omaha. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 2,541.

History

The area that is now Madison was first settled in the late 1860s by settlers from the east. The town was originally known as Madison Station, and was named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States. The town was officially incorporated in 1873.
In the early years, Madison was a small agricultural community, with the main crops being wheat, corn, and hay. The town also had a few small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
