Hemingford is a small village located in Box Butte County, Nebraska, United States. It is situated on the banks of the North Platte River, approximately 20 miles south of Alliance. The population of Hemingford was 545 at the 2010 census.
History
Hemingford was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Alliance. The town was named after a local rancher, William Hemingford, who had a large ranch in the area. The first post office was established in 1888.
In the early 1900s, Hemingford was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a lumber yard. The town also had a hotel, a bank, a newspaper, and several churches.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it. The Great Depression further weakened the town's economy, and many of the businesses closed.

Hemingford is located at 41°45'25" North, 103°2'25" West (41.756944, -103.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Hemingford's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, and a creamery. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 891.7 people per square mile (344.7/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 379.2 per square mile (146.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females.
