Garden County Summary

Garden County is located in the western part of Nebraska, and is bordered by Sioux County to the north, Dawes County to the east, and Morrill County to the south. The county seat is Oshkosh, and the county has a total area of 1,072 square miles. Garden County is part of the Nebraska Panhandle, and is home to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

History

Garden County was established in 1885, and was named after the Garden River, which flows through the county. The county was originally part of Sioux County, and was created to provide better access to the county seat of Sioux County. The county was originally populated by Native Americans, and the first white settlers arrived in the late 1800s.

Geography

Garden County is located in the Nebraska Panhandle, and is bordered by Sioux County to the north, Dawes County to the east, and Morrill County to the south.
