Banner County Summary

Banner County is located in the western part of Nebraska, in the Great Plains region of the United States. It is bordered by Kimball County to the north, Cheyenne County to the east, Morrill County to the south, and Scotts Bluff County to the west. The county seat is Harrisburg, and the largest city is Harrisburg. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,945, making it the second-least populous county in Nebraska.

Geography

Banner County covers an area of 845 square miles, making it the fifth-largest county in Nebraska by area. The county is located in the Great Plains region of the United States, and is characterized by rolling hills and flat plains. The county is drained by the North Platte River, which flows through the county from north to south. The county is home to several small lakes, including Lake Minatare, Lake McConaughy, and Lake Alice.
The county is home to several state parks, including Lake Minatare State Recreation Area, Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area, and Lake Alice State Recreation Area. The county is also home to several wildlife management areas, including the North Platte National Wildlife Refuge, the North Platte River Wildlife Management Area, and the Lake Alice Wildlife Management Area.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,945 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the county. The population density was 2.3 people per square mile. There were 845 housing units at an average density of 1.0 per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
