Ainsworth is a city located in Brown County, Nebraska, United States. It is the county seat of Brown County. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census.

History

Ainsworth was founded in 1883 by the Union Pacific Railroad. It was named after a railroad official, John Ainsworth. The city was incorporated in 1887.

Geography

Ainsworth is located at 42°7′17″N 99°59′17″W (42.121400, -99.987900). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

The economy of Ainsworth is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The city is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, and a variety of restaurants. The city also has a hospital and a nursing home.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,811 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,521.7 people per square mile (586.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.

The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.94.
