Marsing Summary

Marsing is a small city located in Owyhee County, Idaho, United States. It is situated along the Snake River, approximately 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Boise. The population was 1,068 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Marsing is located at 43°37′17″N 116°45′45″W (43.6214, -116.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

History

Marsing was founded in the early 1900s by settlers from the nearby town of Homedale. The town was named after the Marsing family, who were among the first settlers. The town was incorporated in 1911.

Economy

The economy of Marsing is largely based on agriculture. The area is known for its production of potatoes, onions, and other vegetables. The city also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,068 people, 431 households, and 287 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,521.4 people per square mile (586.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 671.4 per square mile (259.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.3% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
