Gresham Summary
Gresham is a small village located in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shawano-Gresham School District.
History
Gresham was founded in 1876 by a group of settlers from Germany. The village was named after Gresham, Oregon, which was named after the English statesman Sir Thomas Gresham. The first post office in Gresham was established in 1877.
In the early 1900s, Gresham was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a creamery, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a livery stable. The village also had a school, a church, and a library.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 902.2 people per square mile (348.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 387.7 per square mile (149.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,845.
