Geography
Hewlett Harbor is located at 40°37'25" North, 73°40'45" West (40.623750, -73.679167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2), all land.
History
Hewlett Harbor was originally part of the Town of Hempstead. It was incorporated as a village in 1931. The village was named after the Hewlett family, who were among the earliest settlers in the area.
Economy
Hewlett Harbor is a residential community with no major industries. The village is home to several small businesses, including a marina, a yacht club, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 645 households, and 545 families residing in the village. The population density was 6,093.3 people per square mile (2,346.2/km2). There were 663 housing units at an average density of 2,164.3 per square mile (831.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.1% Native American, 2.7% Asian, 0.9% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.7% of the population.
There were 645 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.2% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.2% were non-families. 14.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
