Albion is a town located in Orleans County, New York, United States. The population was 8,468 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Orleans County. The town is named after the ancient name for Great Britain.
Geography
Albion is located in the western part of Orleans County, in the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is bordered by the towns of Gaines to the north, Shelby to the east, Ridgeway to the south, and Carlton to the west. The village of Albion is in the center of the town.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 33.2sqmi, of which 33.1sqmi is land and 0.1sqmi, or 0.27%, is water.
History
The area was first settled around 1810. The town of Albion was formed in 1818 from part of the town of Gaines. The town was named after the ancient name for Great Britain.

Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,845 people, 3,541 households, and 2,310 families residing in the town. The population density was 267.2 people per square mile (103.3/km^2). There were 3,845 housing units at an average density of 116.1 per square mile (44.9/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.17% White, 0.90% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.
There were 3,541 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
