Singac Summary
Singac is a small borough located in Passaic County, New Jersey. It is situated in the northern part of the state, just south of the New York border. The borough is bordered by the towns of Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne, and Woodland Park. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population of Singac was 4,873.
History
The area that is now Singac was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The area was part of the Township of Acquackanonk, which was established in 1720. In 1871, the area was incorporated as the Borough of Singac. The name Singac is derived from the Lenape word for “place of many springs.”
Geography
Singac is located at 40°54'N 74°14'W (40.9000, -74.2333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is located in the Passaic River Valley, and is bordered by the towns of Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne, and Woodland Park.
Economy
Singac is a primarily residential community, with a small commercial district located along Main Street. The borough is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The borough is also home to a number of industrial and manufacturing businesses.
Demographics
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 4,873 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the borough. The population density was 4,072.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 79.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 5.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.2% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.7% of the population.

The per capita income for the borough was $30,945.
