Port Borough is a borough located in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. It is located in the southwestern corner of the state, along the Susquehanna River. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Port Borough was first settled in 1790 by a group of German immigrants. The town was originally known as "Port of Hamburg" and was named after the German port city of Hamburg. The town was incorporated in 1820 and was renamed Port Borough in 1845.
The town was an important port for the transportation of goods and people along the Susquehanna River. It was also a major stop on the Underground Railroad, with many runaway slaves passing through the town on their way to freedom.
In the late 19th century, the town was a major center for the coal and lumber industries. The town was also home to several large factories, including a paper mill, a brickyard, and a tannery.
Geography
Port Borough is located at 40°45'N 76°17'W (40.75, -76.28). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located in the Susquehanna Valley, along the Susquehanna River. The borough is bordered by the boroughs of Millersburg to the north, Lykens to the east, and Wiconisco to the south.

The economy of Port Borough is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a beef farm, and a vegetable farm. The racial makeup of the borough was 97.7% White, 0.7% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the borough the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
