History
Harwick was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Harwick, England. The settlers named the town after their hometown in England. The town was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Harwick was a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several coal mines, brickyards, and other industries. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to Pittsburgh and other nearby towns.
Geography
Harwick is located at 40°33'N 79°59'W (40.55, -79.98). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Harwick’s economy is largely based on the service industry. The town is home to several restaurants, bars, and other businesses. The town also has a few small manufacturing companies.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,009.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,148.3 per square mile (443.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $25,000 for females.
