Dunmor Summary
Dunmor is a small unincorporated community located in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. It is situated in the western part of the state, approximately halfway between the cities of Owensboro and Madisonville. The population of Dunmor was estimated to be around 500 people in 2020.
History
The area that is now Dunmor was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Virginia. The town was originally known as “Muhlenberg”, after the county in which it is located. In 1845, the name was changed to “Dunmor”, after a local family who had settled in the area.
The town was officially incorporated in 1876, and the first post office was established in 1877. The town grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving community with a population of around 500 people.
Geography
Dunmor is located in western Kentucky, approximately halfway between the cities of Owensboro and Madisonville. It is situated in the western part of Muhlenberg County, and is bordered by the towns of Greenville, Central City, and Beechmont.
The town is situated on the banks of the Green River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The climate in Dunmor is generally mild, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s in the winter to the mid-80s in the summer.
Economy
The economy of Dunmor is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat. In addition, there are several small businesses in the area, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
