History
Daisetta was founded in 1881 by the Daisetta Land and Improvement Company. The town was named after the daughter of one of the company's founders, Daisy Etta. The town was incorporated in 1891.
Geography
Daisetta is located at 30°14'25" North, 94°45'45" West (30.240278, -94.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Daisetta is largely based on agriculture and oil production. The town is home to several oil and gas companies, including Daisetta Oil Company, Daisetta Oilfield Services, and Daisetta Drilling. The town also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 393 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.3 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 441 housing units at an average density of 363.2 per square mile (140.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 79.45% White, 17.90% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 1.37% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.37% of the population.
There were 393 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.27.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
