History

Kingsbury County is located in the east-central part of South Dakota, and is bordered by Deuel, Grant, Brookings, and Miner counties. The county was established in 1873 and was named after George W. Kingsbury, a prominent early settler. The county seat is De Smet, which was founded in 1880.
