Pomaria Summary
Pomaria is a small town located in Newberry County, South Carolina. It is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately 25 miles northwest of Columbia, the state capital. The town was founded in 1820 and is named after the Latin word for apple, pomum, due to the abundance of apple orchards in the area. The population of Pomaria was 1,093 as of the 2010 census.
Geography
Pomaria is located at 34°25'25" North, 81°37'45" West (34.423, -81.629). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The town is located in the Piedmont region of South Carolina, which is characterized by rolling hills and valleys. The terrain is mostly flat, with some areas of higher elevation. The town is located in the Saluda River watershed, and the Saluda River is the main waterway in the area.
