Edgewood Summary
Edgewood is a small city located in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Little Miami River, about 10 miles east of downtown Cincinnati. The population was 8,619 at the 2010 census.
History
Edgewood was first settled in 1817 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was originally known as "Edgefield" and was later renamed "Edgewood" in 1845. The town was incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Edgewood was a popular summer resort for wealthy Cincinnati residents. The town was known for its many resorts, including the Edgewood Hotel, which was built in 1876 and was one of the largest hotels in the area.
In the early 20th century, Edgewood began to experience a period of growth and development. The town was home to several factories, including the Edgewood Manufacturing Company, which produced furniture and other wood products. The town also had a number of stores, including a grocery store, a drug store, and a hardware store.
Geography
Edgewood is located at 39°9′17″N 84°25′17″W (39.154722, -84.421389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Edgewood's economy is largely based on the service industry. The city is home to a number of restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses. The city is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including the Edgewood Manufacturing Company, which produces furniture and other wood products.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 8,619 people, 3,541 households, and 2,323 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,919.2 people per square mile (1,511.2/km2). There were 3,845 housing units at an average density of 1,717.2 per square mile (662.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 87.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.9% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
There were 3,541 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $50,945, and the median income for a family was $62,917. Males had a median income of $45,917 versus $32,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $25,945. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
