Whitney Summary
Whitney is a small city located in the state of Nebraska, in the United States of America. It is situated in the south-central part of the state, in the Platte River Valley, and is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 1,500 people, and is the county seat of Platte County.
History
The area that is now Whitney was first settled in the late 1800s by settlers from Germany, Ireland, and other parts of Europe. The city was named after a local settler, William Whitney, who was the first to build a home in the area. The city was officially incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Whitney was a thriving agricultural community, with many of its residents working in the local farming industry. The city was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, and a brickyard.
In the 1950s, the city began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better job opportunities. This trend continued into the 1970s, when the city’s population dropped to just over 1,000 people.

Whitney is located in the Platte River Valley, in the south-central part of Nebraska. The city is situated at an elevation of 1,845 feet above sea level, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city is located approximately 30 miles north of Omaha, and is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
