Valley County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 4,936, making it the second-least populous county in Nebraska. Its county seat is Ord. The county was created in 1871 and named for the North Loup River Valley.
Geography
Valley County is located in the north-central part of Nebraska. It is bordered by Garfield County to the north, Greeley County to the east, Sherman County to the south, and Howard County to the west. The county has a total area of 845 square miles, of which 844 square miles is land and 1.2 square miles (0.1%) is water.
The terrain of Valley County is generally flat, with rolling hills in the east and south. The North Loup River flows through the county from east to west, and the Middle Loup River flows through the county from north to south. The county is part of the Sandhills region of Nebraska.

Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 1.2% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 43.2% were German, 17.2% were Irish, 11.2% were English, and 8.2% were American.

The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.88. The median age was 46.2 years.
