Thomas County Summary

Thomas County is located in the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. It is bordered by the states of South Dakota to the north, Iowa to the east, and Kansas to the south. The county seat is Thedford, and the largest city is Thedford. The county was named after Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States.

Geography

Thomas County is located in the Sandhills region of Nebraska. It is mostly flat, with rolling hills and sandy soils. The county is drained by the North Loup River and its tributaries. The county has a total area of 845 square miles, of which 844 square miles is land and 1 square mile is water.
The climate of Thomas County is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is 52°F, and the average annual precipitation is 20 inches.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 3,719 people, 1,521 households, and 1,039 families living in Thomas County. The population density was 4.4 people per square mile.
