Howard County is located in the central part of Nebraska, in the United States. It is bordered by Sherman County to the north, Greeley County to the east, Valley County to the south, and Sherman County to the west. The county seat is St. Paul, and the largest city is St. Libory. The county was named after General Tilghman Ashurst Howard, a Union Army officer who served in the Civil War.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
