Arthur County Summary

Arthur County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 590, making it the second-least populous county in Nebraska. Its county seat is Arthur. The county was created in 1887 and named for Chester A. Arthur, the 21st President of the United States.

Geography

Arthur County is located in the Sandhills region of Nebraska. According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 590 square miles (1,530 km2), of which 589 square miles (1,530 km2) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2) (0.1%) is water.
The terrain of Arthur County consists of rolling hills, with the highest point being at an elevation of 2,890 feet (880 m) above sea level. The county is drained by the Middle Loup River and its tributaries.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 590 people, 246 households, and 166 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.0 inhabitants per square mile (0.4/km2). There were 305 housing units at an average density of 0.5 per square mile (0.2/km2).
