Cloverdale Summary
Cloverdale is a small town located in Montgomery County, Mississippi. It is situated on the banks of the Big Black River, about 25 miles south of Jackson, the state capital. The town was founded in 1837 and has a population of about 1,000 people.
History
Cloverdale was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the clover fields that surrounded it. The settlers were attracted to the area because of its fertile soil and abundant wildlife. The town quickly grew and by the mid-1800s, it had become a thriving agricultural center.
In the late 1800s, the town began to experience a decline in population due to the introduction of the railroad. The railroad bypassed Cloverdale, causing many of the town’s residents to move away in search of better economic opportunities.
In the early 1900s, the town experienced a resurgence in population due to the discovery of oil in the area. The oil industry brought new jobs and economic growth to the town. The town also experienced a population boom due to the influx of African-American workers who were attracted to the area by the promise of better wages and working conditions.
