Wayland Summary
History
The city of Wayland, Missouri is located in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of DeKalb. It is a small town with a population of just over 500 people. The town was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after the nearby Wayland Creek, which was named after a local Native American chief.
The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were corn, wheat, and oats. The town also had a sawmill and a gristmill. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow and develop, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving community.
The town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a bank. The town also had a school, a post office, and a railroad station.
