Franklin Summary
Franklin, Missouri is a small town located in the eastern part of the state, about an hour and a half drive from St. Louis. It is situated in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The town has a population of approximately 2,000 people and is the county seat of Franklin County.
History
Franklin was founded in 1818 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. The town was originally a trading post and was the first county seat of Franklin County. In 1821, the first courthouse was built in Franklin.
In the late 19th century, the town experienced a period of growth and development. The railroad arrived in 1872, and the town was incorporated in 1876. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
