Mentor Summary
Mentor, Minnesota is a small city located in the northwestern corner of the state, in the county of Polk. It is situated on the banks of the Red Lake River, and is surrounded by the Red Lake Indian Reservation. The city has a population of approximately 1,500 people, and is the county seat of Polk County.
History
Mentor was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Crookston. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life, and they chose the area around the Red Lake River. The town was named after the Greek philosopher, Mentor, who was known for his wisdom and guidance.
