Graceville Summary
Graceville is a small city located in Big Stone County, Minnesota, United States. It is situated along the Minnesota-South Dakota border, approximately 20 miles east of the city of Ortonville. The population was 545 at the 2010 census.
History
Graceville was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Ortonville. The town was named after Grace, the daughter of one of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1882.
In the early 1900s, Graceville was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, a lumber yard, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The town also had a school, a church, and a hotel.
In the 1950s, the town began to decline as many of the businesses closed and the population decreased. In the 1970s, the town was revitalized with the construction of a new school and the opening of a new grocery store.

Graceville is located at 45°45'N 96°37'W (45.75, -96.62). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
Graceville is located in the Minnesota River Valley, which is part of the larger Minnesota River Basin. The Minnesota River is a tributary of the Mississippi River and is the primary waterway in the region.

The economy of Graceville is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a dairy farm. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 213 households, and 145 families residing in the city. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 376.7 per square mile (145.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
There were 213 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
