History
Maple Hill was founded in 1857 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the maple trees that grew in the area. The first post office was established in 1858.

Maple Hill is located at 39°17'25" North, 96°14'17" West (39.290278, -96.238056). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Maple Hill is a small, rural community with a primarily agricultural economy. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 152 families residing in the city. The population density was 890.3 people per square mile (344.7/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 372.2 per square mile (143.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White, 0.37% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.06.
