Stanton County Summary

Stanton County is located in the southwestern corner of Kansas, and is bordered by Grant, Haskell, Finney, and Kearny counties. The county seat is Johnson City, and the county was named after Edwin M. Stanton, the Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln. The county has a total area of 890 square miles, and a population of 2,845 as of the 2010 census.

Geography

Stanton County is located in the High Plains region of the Great Plains, and is characterized by flat to rolling terrain. The county is drained by the Arkansas River, which forms its western boundary. The county is mostly covered in grassland, with some areas of cropland and wooded areas.
