Bellevue Summary
Bellevue is a small village located in St. Clair County, Illinois, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 25 miles south of St. Louis, Missouri. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Bellevue was founded in 1818 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The village was named after the French word for “beautiful view” due to its location on the banks of the Mississippi River. The first post office was established in 1819.

In the late 19th century, Bellevue was a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to St. Louis. The village was home to several resorts, including the Bellevue Hotel, which was built in 1876.

Bellevue is located at 38°25′N 90°17′W (38.4139, -90.2833). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.
The village is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 25 miles south of St. Louis, Missouri.
Economy
The economy of Bellevue is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The village is home to several farms, as well as several wineries and vineyards.

Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,527.3 people per square mile (589.3/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 667.3 per square mile (257.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
