History
Colo was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after Colo, Ohio, the hometown of the settlers. The first post office in Colo was established in 1857.

The economy of Colo is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several farms, including the Colo-Nesco School District Farm, which is used to teach students about farming and agriculture.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,039 people, 431 households, and 287 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,205.8 people per square mile (465.2/km2). The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
