History
The area that is now Escalon was originally inhabited by the Yokut Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the mid-1800s, and the town was officially founded in 1869. The town was named after the Spanish word for “scale”, in reference to the scales used by the local farmers to weigh their produce.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and prosper due to the agricultural industry. The town was incorporated in 1922, and the first mayor was elected in 1923. The town continued to grow throughout the 20th century, and by the 2000 census, the population had grown to 6,619.

Escalon is located in the Central Valley of California, approximately 20 miles east of Stockton and 60 miles south of Sacramento. The city is situated at an elevation of approximately 60 feet above sea level. The city covers an area of 2.3 square miles, and is bordered by the cities of Ripon, Manteca, and Modesto.
The climate in Escalon is classified as Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The average high temperature in the summer is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average low temperature in the winter is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
