Geography
Midfield is located at 33°30'25" North, 86°45'17" West (33.506944, -86.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.
History
Midfield was founded in the early 1900s as a small farming community. The city was incorporated in 1950 and has since grown to become a thriving suburb of Birmingham.
Economy
Midfield is home to several businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Lowe's Home Improvement store, and a variety of restaurants and retail stores. The city is also home to the Midfield Industrial Park, which is home to several manufacturing and distribution companies.

As of the 2010 census, there were 5,406 people, 2,072 households, and 1,521 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,288.3 people per square mile (496.7/km2). There were 2,307 housing units at an average density of 551.2 per square mile (212.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 68.2% African American, 28.7% White, 0.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
There were 2,072 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.2% were married couples living together, 28.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
