Walker Summary

Walker, Iowa is a small city located in Linn County, Iowa. It is situated on the banks of the Cedar River and is part of the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 1,500 people and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Walker was founded in 1855 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The city was named after the Walker family, who were among the first settlers. The city was incorporated in 1872 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
The city was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it began to develop into a manufacturing center. The first major industry in the city was a sawmill, which was built in 1876. This sawmill was followed by a number of other factories, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
